In this month’s Wales Business Insider, we give our thoughts on the care sector in Wales. We highlight the importance of the diversity of care staff and the need to give them credited qualifications and real opportunities to grow in their careers. It’s not all about personal care , we need people who are good at social care and support too and people are often put off because they have a pre conceived idea of the industry. With tighter budgets and an aging population, we must support the elderly in helping them stay in their homes and encourage their independence, or there is going to be a massive burden on health care services in the future.

Our Quality Assurance Director, Sheena Umanee and Training Manager, Lisa Griffiths attended the Social Care in Partnership conference at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli in November (2011). The theme this year was 'Working Collaboratively to Deliver Service Excellence'. Speakers included representatives from the Welsh Government, Care Council for Wales and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council among others within the social care sector. Workshops included topics such as dementia care training and partnership and collaborative working as well as medicine management in domiciliary care.
