Training and Development
Care in Hand believes training is an invaluable tool not only for our staff’s development, but for the service we offer as a whole. We understand that training can help build a common understanding of our aims and values, and show our management team’s commitment to all our employees.
Our training also aims to develop an employee’s career to give them the opportunity to increase their responsibilities and contribute to the company with ideas about new ways of working to continually ensure we offer the best level of care.
Our training and development policy follows three easy steps:
Step 1 - Pre-employment
Every member of staff at Care in Hand goes through a thorough recruitment process. All employees are Criminal Record Bureau (CRB: Enhanced) checked before starting work with us and are checked again against the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA). We ensure that all references are reviewed and all employment histories are looked into in depth.
Step 2 - Our seven day induction programme
If successful at step 1, Care in Hand then provides each trainee with a comprehensive induction programme. All employees receive this intensive seven day induction programme before they meet any of our service users, covering different aspects of their roles within the organisation. They will complete a series of sessions, read more here.
Step 3 - 12 week skills, knowledge and assesment programme
After the seven day induction, all employees receive a 12 week probation period, where some time is spent shadowing a senior carer. During this time, each trainee must complete the 12 week skills, knowledge and practical based competency assessment programme. This period ensures that a high quality of care will be provided to our clients by care workers who have undergone an extensive training and assessment programme in both theoretical and practical aspects of care tasks.
Qualifications and Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
Care in Hand is an approved City and Guilds centre and we believe training and knowledge are an investment in our employees. Regardless of the position, we encourage all members of staff to strive towards continuous professional development and recognised qualifications. Regular updating and enhancement of clinical skills training is provided for all nurses, health care assistants and social-care carers on an individual basis, with regular supervision, yearly training and development reviews.
